Al-Qaeda were “planning a surprise birthday party” in Yemeni capital

Conversations intercepted by US intelligence weren’t about attack, claims terror group

SANA’A: Amid reports of US diplomatic officials being flown out of Yemen and several high profile embassy closures across the region, a senior Al-Qaeda spokesman has denied reports that the terrorist group has been planning any sort of attack in the Yemeni capital.

According to Khalid Al-Sala, the group’s regional press officer, the conversations involving Al-Qaeda leader Ayman Al-Zawahiri that had been intercepted by US intelligence were simply to organise a surprise birthday party for one of their staff members.

“It was for our cleaner Steve,” said Al-Sala. “He’s been with us for 20 years and it’s his sixtieth, so Ayman thought we should surprise him with a cake and a sing-song. Well, that’s gone to pot now, hasn’t it? We didn’t build the cake to withstand a drone attack.”

    They’ve done it again haven’t they?The US government ruined the surprise party … Oh well there’s always next year!….that is if the dry cleaner makes it through the next year!
